PROMECA strategic objective is to substantially contribute to the increase of knowledge, skills, and competitiveness in the European research area and industry, through the design and deployment of a thorough plan of research and secondment of researchers between top-level EU academia and industrial partners, contributing to the main European Policies on innovation.

The distributed hydrogen production is the main focus of the PROMECA project. The idea is to develop, test, and validate an innovative membrane reactor, renewable feedstock fueled, integrating new structured catalysts and selective membranes to improve the overall system performance, durability, cost effectiveness, and sustainability.

The objective of industrialization of a catalytic membrane reactor can only be achieved through a sound, interdisciplinary research between the R&D institutions and industry, covering all the aspects of the innovation chain (from materials - catalysts and membranes - to modelling and energy analysis, to engineering and related safety and environmental issues).

A sharing of the technological risk between the industry and research institutions is also a strong incentive to face the well-known conservative nature of the chemical sector and to help a faster exploitation of membrane reactors in this industry and beyond.

The project will bring substantial impacts in terms of skills and knowledge development of the researchers, as well as higher R&I output, contributing to convert more ideas into products. Organizations involved will strongly boost their capacity to carry out R&I activities in multidisciplinary and inter-sectorial collaborations. Finally, the project idea is to enhance the innovation potential and competitiveness of the EU industry, reinforcing its world leadership as a true knowledge-driven industry.

The project is funded by European Commission in the framework of Horizon 2020 under the action MSCA-RISE - Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE). The starting date is January, 1st 2017 and will be concluded in December 2020. The Consortium groups 6 Partners, with KT, Air Liquide and ICI Caldaie as industrial Partners. University of Salerno is the Project Coordinator.
