July 14, 2015 - New Award in the Refining business in Poland: overall contract value estimated to be €304 MN

The contract is related to a refinery unit upgrading in the Gdansk Refinery, in the framework of the EFRA (Effective Refining) Project. Grupa Lotos is one of the largest refining companies in Poland, engaged in the extraction and processing of crude oil, as well as in the wholesale and retail of refined petroleum products.

Under the programme, LOTOS Asfalt selected KT for the engineering, procurement of equipment and materials, construction and hand-over of three key units of the project (a Delayed Coking Unit, a Coker Naphtha Hydrotreating Unit, and a Hydrogen Production Unit, the latter licensed by KT). Pursuant to the contract, KT will construct the deliverables and hand them over for commissioning within 32 months. The scope of the contract entails also the implementation of the best available technology for coke handling in a closed system.

This technology, Closed Coke Slurry System (CCSS), patented by Triplan AG Company (with whom KT has a Cooperation and Promotional agreement), is regarded as a breakthrough approach to the Delayed Coking environmental impact mitigation.

In the contractor selection process for the delayed coking project, invitations were sent to 13 engineering firms from around the world which had previous experience with projects involving heavy residue processing. A separate tender procedure was carried out for the construction of a hydrogen generation unit. Finally the Polish company decided to execute a single agreement for the construction of all three units with KT, which was deemed the optimal solution.

“We have chosen a well-tried contractor; KT has proved itself to be a reliable partner during earlier projects at Grupa LOTOS S.A. We are therefore confident that the contractor will deliver the project with full professionalism.” - Stressed Piotr Przyborowski, President of the LOTOS Asfalt Management Board.

With this important award, KT strengthens its positioning in the refining business and confirms its strong technological orientation. Once again KT’s distinctive capabilities led the company to achieve this outstanding result and consolidate a 10-year relationship with such a prominent client.
